Roots is a series that began with an impromptu fishing trip I took with my son one afternoon in Boston. Noticing an old, gnarled tree that just spoke to me, I decided to do a photo series that would inform an abstract series of paintings. I produced an experimental series of paintings, 8"x 10" in scale using acrylic and pastel.  I saw another opportunity to further abstract the forms by using  4 x 6 cut outs to paint the roots.  I then completed a further series  approximately 18" x 24"on paper using mixed media.
